Abstract of Paper to be Presented at Accio 2008
Harry Potter and Friends: Models for Psychological Resiliency
Angelea Panos
This paper will illustrate key factors in the characters of Harry Potter that demonstrate psychological resiliency. People who possess resiliency factors are able to bounce back from the traumatic events and losses of life, utilize resources for their own positive psychological development and nurture healthy relationships with others. They have a superior level of functioning overall, and appear to develop the skills to acquire this level of adaptation in a synergistic manner. This presentation will provide examples of how the Harry Potter series can be used to demonstrate and reinforce skills for developing resiliency in youth.
