Abstract of Paper to be Presented at Accio 2008
Harry Potter as a Metaphor for Struggling with God
C. L. Littlefield
J.K. Rowling has repeatedly told reporters that book seven is a reflection of her religious beliefs, particularly her struggle to keep believing. Like the biblical prophets, who wrestled and struggled with God, in the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter must decide whether Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is worth following as Harry learns discomforting new truths and struggles with the mission Dumbledore set him. However, despite his doubt, Harry bows to Dumbledore's will even unto death. This presentation will explore Harry's struggle with Dumbledore as a metaphor for man's struggle to believe in God amid the pain and suffering of the world.
